I had Cookie Crisp for breakfast today.

Three bowls.

Sugar cereals rock. We my sister and I were little, my mom would occasionally get us a sugar cereal as a treat from eating cheerios and rice krispies (cookie crisp was her favorite). Whether due to some unconscious (or conscious) rebellion, I eat a lot more sugar cereal now. Unfortunately, village_twins thinks those are the only cereals I eat.

If you look at the nutrition labels, so-called "sugar" cereals are very often lower in fat and sugar than ostensibly "healthy" cereals such as Low Fat Granola, Raisin Bran or Cracklin' Oat Bran. So you can tell Village_Twins to take his high-falutin' health kick and blow it out his Cheerio.

Why such hostility?

First of all, I don't eat Low Fat Granola, Raisin Bran or Oat Bran. But I'll defend them for a moment. If they indeed have more fat than your beloved Cookie Crisp (which I suspect I'd enjoy eating, perhaps as a "dessert cereal"), that is only because they contain nuts and and other "good fat" foodstuffs.

Having said that, I want to make clear that I'm not taking the high road on cereals. Many of my favorite cereals have high trans-fat levels. (Or at least they will once the FDA requires labels to display trans-fat content.
