TV Reporter Cited for Peeping
"Eric Ralph Watson, 34, of 201 Old Grove Lane in Apex, was charged with one count of secret peeping."

"Secret peeping?" Is this an official violation? "Stalking," I could understand. "Unlawful surveillance" would make sense in the right context. But if the peeping is really secret, it seems to me like a victimless crime. This may be a rationalization on my part.

My senior year of college, my five suitemates and I shared a balcony with a six-person suite of girls -- uppity, heavily perfumed sorority girls, the kind of girls who would not have approached geeks like us to put us out if we were on fire.

Our suites adjoined in an "L" shape, such that one could see through the windows of their individual rooms from our lounge area. One of these women had a habit of taking her clothes off, standing in front of her mirror and checking herself out -- at times she seemed to engage in this procedure with a thoroughness bordering on medical.

Anyway, it didn't take long for us guys to notice and observe this recurring phenomenon. One such night, a handful of us were in full anthropological study mode when JRM, who often enjoyed sliding down the long hallway in his socks a la Tom Cruise, slid so hard into the lounge that he crashed into an end table with a terrific ruckus. The noise caused our subject to turn around suddenly as we perverts scattered away like cockroaches.

She kept her blinds closed after that. We forgave JRM after a few months.
