A sonnet? I'm on it.
Apr. 10th, 2008 09:18 pmApparently Garrison Keillor is sponsoring a sonnet contest. I just found out about it today. As my Aunt Jackie says, this has my name written all over it.
Bed of Roses Love Sonnet Contest
What: Last chance to send A Prairie Home Companion your best fourteen-liner about love (of men, cats, hamburgers, whatever). Winner gets a queen-size bed, three dozen roses, and his or her name on the radio.
Why: You’re a poet and you know it.
When: By Fri.
Where: Online at prairiehomecompanion.org.
What's annoying about this is that it's unclear whether "midnight Friday" means late Friday night or early Friday morning. If I had more time I would nominate a few options and let you vote for the one I should submit. But to make sure I qualify, I have to submit something tonight. So this is what I'm sending in:
Love Love Love Love Love.
I love the love you love me with, I do
And love you with my best love in return
The love I love you with is hardly new
But love is ne'er too old to love to learn
Your love loves lovingly, with all its grace
As my love's strong and loves with love of might
Your love shows love upon your lovely face
But my love's coy and loves just out of sight
Your love's a shiny love, in love and proud
While my love's plain, a lover's loving hum
If your love spoke, your love would love aloud
While my love loves entranced and leaves me dumb
.Perhaps your love can teach to love like you;
.My love just loves to hear "I love you too."
