"I do not read advertisements - I would spend all my time wanting things."
- Franz Kafka (Australo-Hungarian writer, cockroach, TiVo afficionado)

Dear Readers: Those of you who actually visit this site-proper at http://enchanted-pants.livejournal.com, rather than subscribing or syndicating or uploading or downloading to some blog-net-feed-aggregator or whatever, will notice that garish and obtrusive advertising has infiltrated the margins of this Web site.

I know! Advertising is evil. Web ads even moreso, and annoying, to boot. I don't blame you for being upset. But please stop throwing things.

Because this invasion is intentional and expected, as I have temporarily "upgraded" my LiveJournal account from "basic" to "advertiser-supported." I am doing this to take advantage of certain premium LiveJournal tools that would be otherwise unavailable to me and which I intend to test-drive over the weekend.

Which means you will test-drive it, too. I am heading off to Florida again, this time for a mini-vacation instead of a maxi-convention. And since I will likely be without reliable access to a computer for updates to this space, I will be issuing "voice posts," to which you ought to be able to listen with a minimum of computer software and hardware. I'll test it out tonight to make sure it works.

I should note that the upgrade and its attendant advertisements are probably temporary, lest I be lulled into joining Nutrisystem or refinancing a mortgage that I don't even actually have yet. You should feel free to click-through, though. I guess we could all be thinner and richer.

Those of your readers using Firefox's AdBlock do not see banner ads and thus don't notice the difference.

Marvelous.

Hey, which one of us is supposedly the "snob?"

Um, this ad block thing is genius; why didn't I hear about it before? (ahem, my go-to techie). It totally eliminates the sidebar ads in yahoo, too, and thus part of the argument about switching to gmail...

Sorry, SJB! But it sounds like you're on board now. You'll never see a banner ad again!

Blah blah blah AdBlock. The problem with it is that is also blocks 90% of content on sites that use multi-media formats. Until Firefox figures out that videos from Washingtonpost.com are not ads, I refuse to use it.

It's quite simple to teach AdBlock to accept videos on washingtonpost.com!
