Real irritating
May. 29th, 2007 03:16 pmThis morning on a crowded Metro car, a guy was wearing one of those orange rubber bracelets that are so popular these days. It had the Stoli logo on it and said "BE REAL."
It's hard for me to imagine anything less authentic than wearing rubber jewelry in a blithly desperate attempt to self-identify as the member of some pre-established social group -- especially a bracelet that has to remind you loudly to "be real." And that's not even mentioning the hypocrisy inherent in such a bracelet being provided by a company whose products are designed to alter users' personality on a temporary-to-ongoing basis.
What would have been "real" is if the bracelet had simply said "douchebag."

Maybe he was being ironic?
