[Insert Uranus Joke Here]
Aug. 8th, 2006 05:05 pmIn the nomenclature of interstellar study, which features such beautiful and mellifluous glossary entries as "Meteor Shower," "Crab Nebula," "Aurora Borealis," "The Milky Way Galaxy" and "Princess Leia Organa," is there anything so woefully out-of-place as the term "Brown Dwarf"? It sounds like an epithet for Emmanuel Lewis, or something deposited in a Porta-Potty.
A brown dwarf is a small star-like body, made of the stuff of suns, but not engaged in nuclear fusion. I say we call these bodies "Lindsay Lohans." They look like they could be young stars, but the fact is they are cold and lifeless, spinning blindly like a drunken hussy.
