I know relatively little about macropolitics, and even less about the federal judiciary. But if all these conservative groups hate Harriet Miers, she must not be so bad.
That's not quite right. Conservative groups don't hate Harriet Miers. They certainly don't hate her beliefs. But they are bothered that they weren't in on the decision and that they don't know her. And the latter is why they fear another David Souter.
Anyone that Bush likes scares the crap out of me. I hear he told Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that God spoke to him and told him to appoint Miers.
Is as nutty as they come, and he's crazy about her. The reason conservatives are upset is that they're worried that, because they don't know much about her, she COULD be "another Souter." Given how long Bush has known Miers, I don't think that's remotely a possibility.
