A few months ago I expounded on the ignoble desire of "fame", as part of a screed against social networking sites. And as I said, I am not immune.
So I read with some interest the recent Washington Post Magazine article by Gene Weingarten, The Fame Threshhold, which in turn references Tom [Shroder]'s Postulate on the Universal Nature of Fame:
"A person is truly famous if and only if his or her name, when entered in quotes into the Google search engine, returns more hits than does the phrase 'she moaned.' "
As of this writing, "she moaned" yields approximately 2.12 million hits. Eager to play along, I checked my name, which brings forth a relatively paltry 1,170 hits. For some frame of reference, I am about 1/5,000th as famous as Ben Affleck and 1/40,000th as famous as Paris Hilton.
On the bright side, I am just about as popular than the phrase "Now take off your bra."*

Date: 2008-01-27 04:23 am (UTC)But I will grant you that if you summed all the various ways in which the bra-removal sentiment could be expressed (i.e., "Please take off your bra," "Remove your bra," "Take that bra off, Josh," etc.), it would be no contest.
Incidentally, you suggest that "taking off a bra" is a really popular thing. But I think I speak for most guys, anyway, when I say that the bra is an obstacle we could occasionally do without.
