"No man needs a vacation so much as the man who has just had one."
- Elbert Hubbard
Maybe this is obvious enough to go without saying, but if there is going to be a three-day weekend, I far prefer the Saturday-Sunday-Monday variety to the Friday-Saturday-Sunday variety.
Fridays already entail a certain amount of informality (i.e. casual dress, late arrivals and/or early departures), so getting a Friday off is practically a fraction of a normal holiday, whereas Monday is always a day full of foreboding, angst and meetings. In addition to -- and perhaps because of -- this fact, Thursday night has already become something of a social occasion, so you're not really gaining much there, either, whereas the creeping Sunday evening dread is totally washed away, which allows one to actually enjoy Sunday night. But most of all, the SSM-3x Weekend is the holiday that keeps on holying, because immediately after the SSM-3x Weekend, you have only a four-day week, which is almost like getting an entirely new three-day weekend of the FSS-3x variety, only you have to go to work after two days. But you're so drunk or hung over by that point that you end up calling in sick anyway.
All this is my way of saying Happy Labor Day, everybody. Especially all of you laborers out there, or women in labor, or subjects in a laboratory, or people laboring through this journal entry.
